Today's Health Management Ounce of Prevention

Our American ways of how we treat our health sometimes leaves a lot to be desired. It appears that we prefer treatment of diseases and physical problems as opposed to preventing what might be the causes of the problems. I believe that the medical community will ignore, hide or shun altogether any form of natural treatment or prevention. It is imperative you educate yourself about all options for your own health.

Growing up I remember an old saying that said an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. I'm not sure who said it originally but usually I attributed it to my mom who was only about 95 - 100 lbs soaking wet. She was tired of people telling her to quit smoking because of the bad health problems she might get from it. I think she made the comment back to those who sat eating several donuts at coffee break time and were obviously obese. To make a long story short mom got the bad health and paid for it with a shortened life and who knows if the ounce of cure of never taking up the habit would've prevented the diseases. The obesity problem she addressed at her attackers probably had as many if not more health issues as well and cutting back on unhealthy eating habits would have been their ounce of prevention.

Mom usually had a comment about the obese saying genetics or thyroid problems was a bunch of baloney too but when it comes to your health you are not at the mercy of your genetics and an option exists that doesn't rely on drug treatments. You need to take steps in the way of finding your ounce of prevention if for nothing else but to prevent the pound of cure before any bad issues creep in.

Preventative Medicine Discussion With The Doctor is Rare

By the time you take a health issue to the doctor chances are he or she is not going to sit down and talk about any preventative you could have done. Chances are also good that the main subject will be trying this or that treatment and running several tests to get you started on the drug treadmill. Prevention options sometime seems expensive but the expense is an ounce compared to the pound mentioned above. 1 3 cup to oz

By the way, you probably have figured out there is no money to be made with healthy patients. The majority of TV commercials are all about the availability of another wonder drug to ask your doctor about for your own self diagnosis so that you feel obligated to ask the doctor about any real or imaginary ailment.

Maybe I sound like there's a conspiracy to grab your money but time constraints makes it almost impossible for the health practitioner to sit down with you the patient to go over a customized health plan when his or her waiting room is full of sick patients demanding a cure they saw on a TV commercial.

As a consumer take control now. Educate yourself on preventatives and other options available other than drug routines and surgery. Certainly you can ask your doctor about any recommendations for disease prevention. It is likely you will just get a non-specfici or broad answer with no details especially if they might mean visiting the health food store.

There is a real concern that we rely way too much on prescriptions and it just has become too commonplace. If you don't believe that why does the CDC (Centers for Disease Control), issue warnings about overuse of antibiotics, as one example.

If the doctor won't or doesn't have the time to sit down to teach you how to keep your immune system running top notch so that you won't get sick then educate yourself. All the doctor has to do is wait a while and you'll be by anyway for the pound of cure which is he grabs the pen and prescription pad and you get to visit the pharmacy too. At least if nothing else if you educate yourself on the options of preventions that are available you can spend your time doing that and be wiser for it too and richer because the ounce is less expensive than the pound of cure.
